From February 19 – March 12, 1950, Billy Graham and his team held their first major southern Crusade in Columbia, South Carolina. He would later receive “The Faith We Have Not Kept” from Strom Thurmond with whom he and Ruth stayed during their time in Columbia.

 

Billy Graham and the Cold War

On Nov. 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall fell marking the end of a communist country in Germany and the new era of freedom in eastern Europe. Billy Graham had first visited behind the Iron Curtain in 1959 as a tourist and left “with a dream, a hope, and a prayer that someday I, along with others, might proclaim the Gospel throughout” those communist-run countries.

 

This Date in History – the 75th Anniversary of Television

Billy Graham has always been committed to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), formed in 1950, began using television as early as 1951., while the medium was still in its infancy.
