Sketches of North Carolina, given to Billy Graham by Rev. James Christie, a Scottish clergyman during the 1955 All Scotland Crusade. Inscription reads, “Presented by James Reid Christie, formerly of [illegible] London, now of Broom, Glasgow to Dr. Billy Graham of North Carolina, U.S.A as a token of gratitude for the labors as an evangelist in Scotland, the land of his Ancestors. Easter 1955.

This Easter marks the 60th anniversary of Billy Graham’s All-Scotland Crusade, a monumental event that saw more than 2.5 million people attend the meetings at Kelvin Hall, Hampden Park and across Scotland over the course of six weeks in 1955. As a result, as least 50,000 made decisions for Christ, and the impact of those events was felt across generations.

As a part of that historic Crusade exactly six decades ago, Billy Graham was also able to address the UK on television in a special Good Friday message titled “The Cross.” It was the first time a live broadcast from a Billy Graham meeting was attempted. At the time, reports indicated it was surpassed in viewership only by the Coronation, as it was viewed by 10 million and heard by countless more on radio.

Today, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) is partnering with Scottish churches to bring a new message of hope from Billy Graham, who turns 97 this November. This Easter, thousands are expected to hear a powerful message from Billy Graham, this time in the form of his new film “The Cross,” a part of the nationwide initiative called My Hope, taking place across the United Kingdom.

The U.S. version of the film continues to spread across this nation as well, as it’s been viewed 1.3 million views on YouTube and 500,000 copies have been distributed on DVD to churches and individuals.

Please join us in praying for churches across the United Kingdom as they share Billy Graham’s message of “The Cross.” And, consider ways you can use the My Hope resources in your own community.
