Archive Insider: Brass Plate

Billy Graham, Okinawa, Japan, 1980

Throughout 2021, we’ll be honoring our local heroes by showcasing items given to Billy Graham by law enforcement, firefighters, and military personnel throughout the course of his ministry.

Billy Graham had the dream to be a military chaplain for some time before he fell ill and could not attend chaplaincy school. However, God had a different plan. Billy Graham remained faithful to the unique call on his life and God blessed his dream. During many of Billy Graham’s Crusades across the globe, he had the opportunity to minister to American troops stationed internationally.

In October 1980, Billy Graham held a three-day crusade in Okinawa, Japan. He attended a luncheon with American generals on the second day of the Crusade. The generals presented Billy Graham with a brass plate “Air Ground Team – Marine Amphibious Force.”

“Our voices, our service, and our abilities are to be employed, primarily for the glory of God,” Billy Graham once stated. He lived out Colossians 3:17 and encouraged others to do the same: “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
