    Christmas
My heart was broken as I cried sitting alone. I could not afford one present – much less the wrappings or bows to give my grandchildren. The pain in my heart crushed me to breathlessness. Dry hard tears. The song hard candy Christmas by Dolly Parton came to mind, thinking, well Lord I don’t even have the hard candy. At my sons house for Christmas dinner I helped cook, my husband blessed, we ate. All my grandchildren were there. Then a serious nerfball competition began. Toys I had purchased over the years. My granddaughter opened collector barbies I had bought when working over the years missing holidays. I watched them running, playing, and smiling, when God spoke humbling my heart, “They would rather have you here right now being Grandma …”

The most special gift I was even given that was totally free and made straight from the heart was a cross beautifully crafted from little tree branches and lashed together.with pine needles. I was on a very special retreat with other Christian ladies and it was the 1st time I had ever been away from my daughter and husband. She had attended the youth version and sneaked to the facility without my knowing and helped behind the scenes. She watched me all day without me knowing and presented me with the cross necklace without saying a word at the end of the day. She gave me a big hug and kiss and off she went without a word. I was speechless and so humbled by the love and sacrifice she made just to be near me during that special time.

One of the most heartwarming gift that I remember more recently was from my Uncle that lived in a different State. I opened the box and it had old miniature dollhouse furniture in it. I was so amazed at the details on the wooden chairs, and how life like everything looked. It really meant a lot to me recieving the package in the mail, and the surprise that awaited me inside on Christmas morning.
