Why does this couple volunteer to serve at Christmas at the Library’s carriage rides? “Christmas is a time to be able to share our Savior’s love and birth and happiness.”
Sometimes it rains, sometimes it snows, and it’s usually pretty cold.
But for Tom and Heidi Bumgarner, it’s a privilege to assist with Christmas at the Library’s carriage rides – no matter what the weather.
“It’s great to be part of people’s Christmas memories,” Heidi said.
Heidi works for Mecklenburg County in Charlotte, N.C., and Tom is a facilities director, but they both became regular Library volunteers after serving one Christmas three years ago.
“Christmas is a time to be able to share our Savior’s love and birth and happiness,” Tom said.
And everyone is excited about the carriage rides, “clear down to the ones that had to stand in line for three hours.”
Some people in line break out in Christmas carols, and last year, Tom and Heidi witnessed a few marriage proposals. Tom noted that everyone seems at peace and renewed when they come to the Library at Christmas.
Enjoy Christmas at the Library through Dec. 22. Hours are from 5-9 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) and 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Carriage rides are $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. For more information, including directions and tips to plan your visit, please visit BillyGrahamLibary.org.
