Our summer intern shares — 3 things I learned from my internship

July 31, 2022

Each summer, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association hosts interns from across the country and around the world. The following is a guest post from Matt, an intern at the Billy Graham Library for 2022.

My internship with the Billy Graham Library has been an exciting experience that has taught me many lasting principles of Christian ministry. I would like to share them briefly with you in hopes that would remind you of what the Lord is doing in your own life.

  1. Prayer Is Powerful

I do not think I have ever seen such an emphasis on prayer as I have seen during my internship at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). Churches I have served with in the past vocally emphasized the importance of prayer. I have been a part of various impactful prayer meetings. But here at the BGEA and the Billy Graham Library, prayer is incorporated into every aspect of what we do. Not only do we start meetings off in prayer, but every morning we pray with each other in devotions. Every week we take time out of our schedules to have a prayer meeting to seek the Lord’s guidance and provision for the Library.

  1. People Are Important

Throughout this internship I have had the opportunity to meet many different people who have been faithfully serving the Lord for many years. I have been personally blessed by each person whom I have met during my time here. By seeing the Lord’s faithfulness to them, and their continued obedience to Him, I have been greatly encouraged in my own faith. This internship has reminded me of the importance of being mutually encouraged by each other’s faith (Romans 1:12).

  1. Patience Is Key

As we have waited for, and hoped for, the Library’s reopening the Lord has used this time in my own life to remind me of His perfect timing. We often wish to rush into the next new thing. By doing this, we sometimes miss what God is trying to teach us in the times of waiting. Of course, ultimately, this applies to each one of us, as we wait for Christ’s return. We can know that “at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). So in like manner, He will return at the perfect time to establish His kingdom and call His saints.
