As we reflect on the tragic events of the 9/11 attacks 17 years ago, we’d like to bring your attention to an artifact from our vault that signifies hope.
This artifact is a cross made from steel found in the debris of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. It was given to Billy Graham by Michael Martelli, a retired New York police officer, as a thank you from the people of New York.
Three days after the attack, Mr. Graham spoke at the National Cathedral during the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance service. Watch the video below to see the cross he was presented, and to hear part of the message he delivered to Americans on Sept. 14.
