Making travel plans? The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, is one destination you’ll want to check out.

The Library will reopen in this fall after being refreshed with new technology and visual enhancements throughout The Journey of Faith tour. The ministry temporarily closed in late December to make the changes, including updating outdated technology from over 10 years ago.

The Journey of Faith recounts the story of how God used Billy Graham to communicate the Gospel for more than seven decades. The evangelist’s life is chronicled through interactive displays, exhibits and also includes personal items and memorabilia given to him at Crusades across the globe.

Though leaving some details of the Library’s refreshment a surprise for visitors, David Bruce couldn’t help but be excited.

“We can’t wait to welcome back individuals, churches and tour groups,” said Bruce, executive vice president of the Billy Graham Library and the Billy Graham Archive and Research Center.

Bruce also served as Billy Graham’s executive assistant for decades.

“These wow factors will tell the story of how God worked through Billy Graham’s life in a new way,” he explained. “This new technology will be something people have never seen at the Library.

“It’s a remarkable place for people to come face to face with the story of Billy Graham,” Bruce shared, as well as hear the Gospel and an invitation to receive Christ.

One new exhibit will feature Billy Graham’s “final journey,” Bruce added, referring to the events surrounding the evangelist’s death in 2018.

“A new audio/visual display reflects the power, solemnity and Gospel focus of those days: the poignant journey home in a motorcade from Asheville to Charlotte, the lying in honor at the U.S. Capitol, and the events in Charlotte leading up to the funeral and burial on the grounds of the Billy Graham Library,” he said. “While utilizing the media account of world reaction to the evangelist’s death, the real and lasting focus of this special display is on a believer’s eternal life in Jesus Christ, the very essence of Mr. Graham’s lifelong preaching ministry.”

Visitors will also get a glimpse into Billy and Ruth Bell Graham’s home life in the North Carolina mountains.

“You’ll step right into a replica of the Grahams’ living room,” Bruce explained. “It’s a reflection of the heart of Ruth Graham, who projected such a genuine heart for Jesus.”

She was a homemaker, mother, writer, poet and helper to her husband.

They were inseparable, said Bruce. “You can’t really tell the story of Mr. Graham’s history and life without highlighting the remarkable woman Ruth Graham was in so many ways.”

In addition, exciting changes are coming to Ruth’s Attic bookstore and the Dairy Bar.

A newly designed Ruth’s Attic will be more open and offer exciting new products. Bruce explained that it’s one of the only standing brick and mortar Christian bookstores in the Charlotte area.

The Dairy Bar—a cafe that also features ice cream and other treats—will feature new offerings.

But with all these refreshments, the purpose and mission of the Library will never change.

“The crown jewel of all that we do is the message of the Gospel through the life of Billy Graham as it’s told,” said Bruce.

“The Library is built on the reflection of a strong past, but now an exciting future. It’s being renewed for a new generation.”
