The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. In honor of the organization’s faithful service and evangelism efforts, we will look at the various aspects of the ministry that proclaim the Gospel.

In 1960, well into his global ministry, Billy Graham sensed a need for a Christian resource to help people make sense of the events around them. Since then, Decision magazine has served as a tool to “inform and challenge readers about key cultural and Biblical issues, and extend the ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.”

In the first issue, Billy Graham wrote, “The basic purpose of this magazine will be twofold: to provide spiritual food for Christians, and to publish evangelistic messages and articles aimed at reaching the secular mind and winning the nonbeliever to Christ.”

The development and launch of Decision magazine was an example of Billy Graham’s passion for using different types of media to spread the Gospel. From radio to television, and from books to newspapers to pamphlets, he sought to utilize every means available to inform, educate, and share the truth and hope of Jesus Christ.

The magazine was a quick success, reaching 4 million in circulation by the publication’s 10th anniversary. Several other language editions beyond English were later added, including Braille.

While times and media have evolved, the need for Biblical and Gospel-centered perspectives is still greatly needed. Decision magazine continues to focus on issues including spiritual growth and discipleship, religious liberty, sanctity of life, marriage, gender, and many others.

In April of 2019, Decision magazine launched its current website to inform and educate as many as possible using technology. The online Decision offers daily breaking news stories and additional web features that aim to help believers stand on the truth of the Gospel.

Decision magazine and its website continue the mission statement of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association by “proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to all we can by every effective means available.”

Now though Nov. 1, the Billy Graham Library is featuring a special exhibit, “Decision: The Evangelical Voice for Today.” During this special, limited-time exhibit, you’ll see how the Lord has used Decision to reach believers and nonbelievers with the truth of Scripture for 65 years. You’ll also explore how each new issue boldly exposes the darkness of today’s world in light of God’s Word—and challenges Christians to stand strong and live for Him.
