Have you ever wondered about questions like: Why do bad things happen? Can I find hope in the midst of chaos? What is the Apocalypse? How do today’s headlines relate to Biblical prophecy?
War. Scandal. Crash. Destruction. These are some of the words that stream through news headlines and cause many to be filled with fear, uncertainty and even despair. It’s hard to avoid seeing the terrible things that are happening across the world—from social media reels to television clips to articles in newspapers and magazines—bad news is everywhere. The current conflicts in Iran and Ukraine are only a small sampling of the troubles humanity is facing.
Billy Graham preaches in the rain in Wembley Stadium, London, England in 1989
In his book Storm Warning, Billy Graham examines the struggles America is confronted with now, as well as the trials yet to come, as the prophecies in the book of Revelation unfold. The book dives deep into topics including the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the signs of the end times.
Billy Graham remarks in the introduction that the world of the 21st century is completely different than the one he knew as a young boy. He notes that depression and anxiety have taken over the hearts of people and “their thunderbolts can grip our hearts with indescribable fear.” These “storm warnings” demonstrate that the dark, ominous clouds on the horizon are a harbinger for the indescribable storm that’s brewing.
In Storm Warning, Rev. Graham raises caution about ignoring warning signs of the End Times:
“Human nature reacts differently. Some head straight to the grocery store at the first hint of a winter storm. When the meteorologist warns of thunderstorms, people scurry to locate their umbrellas. When the Weather Channel posts a warning to take cover because a tornado has been spotted nearby, parents hurry their children to shelter, snatching flashlights and candles in case the electricity goes out for hours—even days.
These are responsible actions. These are people who heed the warnings. Yet how many times have we watched and waited as the snow clouds moved in another direction, or the showers sprinkled just enough to calm the dusty air, or the sky abruptly changed complexion—and the warnings turned out to be nothing more than a distraction, an interruption to the activity of life? After a while, one false alarm after another, people become complacent—until it’s too late, because at some point the warning is real.”
Ultimately, God is the victor over the darkness, but only those who know and follow Him will have the everlasting hope He freely offers. Find out more about how you can have peace with God.
