The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. In honor of the organization’s faithful service and evangelism efforts, we will look at the various aspects of the ministry that proclaim the Gospel.
It could be argued that Billy Graham’s ministry began with a pen, as he published his first book, Calling Youth to Christ, in 1947. The title was reflective of his ministry at the time. Billy traveled around the world sharing the Gospel with an organization called Youth for Christ.
As his ministry continued, so did his writing. Billy Graham would go on to write and publish more than 30 books, that not only shared the Gospel, but delved into deep spiritual topics such as life after death, the purpose of the Holy Spirit, freedom in Christ, and having hope in the midst of a dark world.
Two books that were written in his later years, Nearing Home and Where I Am, both discussed finishing a life of faith with hope. His autobiography, Just As I Am, provided a detailed narrative of his life of ministry with glimpses into personal relationships.
More than 2 million copies have been sold of Billy Graham’s Peace with God. Often considered one of Graham’s most influential books, Peace with God was first published in 1953. It has been translated into 38 languages, and has since been revised and expanded and continues to be distributed today. The book explains how to obtain peace with God, others, and yourself through Jesus Christ.
Other books that reached various bestseller lists include World Aflame, Angels: God’s Secret Agents, Approaching Hoofbeats: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and Facing Death and the Life After.
The powerful words of Billy Graham continue to be available to readers today. Ruth’s Attic bookstore at the Billy Graham Library carries Rev. Graham’s books, as well as books by Graham family members including Franklin Graham and Will Graham.
We are certainly thankful that God used Billy Graham as a vessel to speak through his writings, speaking and his life.
