The Power of Christ in the Home: Make Christ the Foundation of Your Marriage

May 9, 2016

From May 2-June 30, guests to the Billy Graham Library will have the opportunity to see a special display called “The Power of Christ in the Home.” Through the display featured in the Journey of Faith, visitors can gain insights and timeless truth from what the Bible says about parenting, including an intimate look into Billy and Ruth Graham’s Christ-centered home and see personal memorabilia, a family Bible, rare photographs and more. Each week we will also feature a special insight from Billy or Ruth about making Christ the center of your home.

This weeks insight comes from Billy Graham’s My Answers:

Once life hits and the unexpected happens, it can be difficult to keep your marriage centered in Christ. For newly weds, it is important to begin your marriage on that solid foundation. For those who have been married for years, you should always work to combat getting stuck in a worldly routine.

God gave marriage to us, and He has a plan for us far better than our own. He purposefully blessed men with women and women with men—to enjoy each other’s company, to help each other in times of need and to strengthen our relationships for His glory. He planned for marriage to be a life-long promise and commitment, not only to each other but also to Him.

The Garden of Eden was complete—but God still declared, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18).

The most important advice Billy Graham gives to any young couple is to seek God’s will for their marriage. Don’t leave it to chance, or depend only on your own judgment. God knows all about you; He knows your needs, and wants to lead you to the spouse He has for you.

The greatest enemy of love in a marriage is selfishness—putting self first instead of the needs of our spouse. This is why we need Christ, because only He can transform our hearts and make us into the husband or wife He wants us to be. Is Christ the center and foundation of your marriage—and your life?
