Bookstore staff will help lead each discussion\, which will be held in Billy Kim Hall near the dairy bar. \nSpace is limited\, so sign up today. \nIn August\, we’re reading Tell Me the Stories of Jesus\, by R. Albert Mohler\, Jr. In Tell Me the Stories of Jesus\, pastor and theologian R. Albert Mohler Jr. reveals the unique power of Jesus’ parables for today’s readers\, showing how they announce the kingdom\, communicate both judgment and grace\, and call every human heart toward transformation in the light of God’s love. \n“He who has ears\, let him hear…” The Prodigal Son. The Good Samaritan. The parable of the mustard seed. The stories Jesus told during his earthly ministry are packed with such memorable images and characters that they now permeate our culture’s popular imagination. But what if their familiarity has muted their powerful message\, causing today’s readers to miss their ability to shock and transform? \nIn Tell Me the Stories of Jesus\, Mohler unlocks the power of Jesus’ parables for readers today. Jesus perfected the art of telling parables–short stories with a surprising twist and an explosive message that confronted his listeners with surprising (and often uncomfortable) truths about the human heart and the kingdom of heaven. But two thousand years later\, modern readers may not grasp the cultural and historical context that made these stories so compelling for Jesus’ original audience. Mohler brings Jesus’ stories to life\, uncovering the context and allowing readers to hear these stories in all their shocking\, paradigm-shifting power. \nReserve Your Spot.\n  \n

SUMMARY:Ruth's Attic Book Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Billy Graham Library for Book Talks\, a monthly group conversation about one of the many good reads we offer in Ruth’s Attic bookstore. \nDeepen your relationship with Christ and discover how to share your faith with others as we dive into a specific title. When you RSVP\, you’ll receive a free copy of that month’s chosen book\, though finishing it is not required to attend. Bookstore staff will help lead each discussion\, which will be held in Billy Kim Hall near the dairy bar. \nSpace is limited\, so sign up today. \nIn September\, we’re reading Fan the Flame by Jim Cymbala. What if we modeled our churches after what Jesus intended His church to look like? What if our hope for our ministries rested not on human wisdom but on God’s power? \nOver the past few years\, we’ve all seen how quickly circumstances can change\, and many of us have experienced firsthand how church growth trends and popular models fail us. Churches across the country are struggling\, and many pastors are deeply discouraged. We work hard and with great sincerity\, but our efforts don’t seem to be helping our churches flourish. \nJim Cymbala—New York Times best-selling author and long-time pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle—has been watching the pressing need for back-to-the-basics spiritual leadership among Christians\, and he’s seen so many churches come to defeat because so many leaders forget this one truth: Your church is not your church. It’s Christ’s church. In order for his church to flourish\, we have to minister his way. \nReserve Your Spot.\n

Bookstore staff will help lead each discussion\, which will be held in Billy Kim Hall near the dairy bar. \nSpace is limited\, so sign up today. \nIn November\, we’re reading While Men Slept by Dr. L. Nelson Bell. \nL. Nelson Bell was a noted surgeon and medical missionary to China from 1916 to 1941. He and his wife\, Virginia Leftwich Bell\, had five children\, including a daughter\, Ruth\, who went on to marry Billy Graham. After WWII forced the family to leave the mission hospital and return to the United States\, Dr. Bell practiced medicine in Asheville\, North Carolina; co-founded and edited the magazine Christianity Today; and served as a leader in his denomination. \nDr. Bell had a passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and for Biblical truth. He began compiling this book in the 1960s and published it in 1970 to exhort the church to remain vigilant and firmly planted on the Word of God. Today\, in a culture where God’s truth is under attack\, Dr. Bell’s passionate call is just as timely and urgent as it was over five decades ago. \nReserve Your Spot.\n  \n

These 31 short chapters take a deep dive into the book of Philippians\, which Robert Morgan says is the Bible’s handbook for tackling each day with an undaunted attitude. \nLife is unpredictable\, and the world is unstable. People have never been so confounded\, sensing our culture\, economy\, and geopolitical systems are spiraling downward. Even in our personal lives\, none of us knows what will happen next—which is why God gave us the book of Philippians. This short letter—just over 100 verses—can help us learn to live overflowing lives in an overwhelming world. \nPhilippians is one of the most practical books of the Bible\, which Robert Morgan says is as fresh as ever. Its theme can be summed up in these verses: “Whatever happens\, conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then . . . I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit\, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you” (1:27–28). Among the many lessons in Whatever Happens\, readers will learn how to: \nUse prayer to energize their life\nMake today about others\nStay as cheerful as possible in all circumstances\nLet others lean on their strength\nStart everything with praise and end everything with prayer \nAs the apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians from a prison cell\, he was facing dire circumstances and an unsettled future. Would he be released or executed? But he knew one thing—that whatever happened\, he was going to stand firm in his faith and live a life worthy of the gospel. And no matter what we are going through today\, we can do the same. \nReserve Your Spot.\n  \n
