Volunteer Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pray regularly for fellow Volunteers, Billy Graham Library staff, leadership and the Library ministry.
  • Interact with Guests in a Christian and professional manner so that their hearts are open to the Holy Spirit.
  • Follow the guidelines of each individual position description.
  • Adhere to the guidelines and resources approved by BGEA when responding to Guest inquiries about the Library and the Graham family.
  • Be attentive to any issues that could impact the Guest experience, including safety, security, Library presentations or Guest concerns.

Position Specifications

Skills and Abilities
  • Able to articulate the principles of the Christian Life and Witness Course;
  • Enjoy working with the public and possess good people skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to readily and consistently engage individual guests in an articulate, enthusiastic and personable manner;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely and respectfully;
  • Excellent personal grooming and appearance and willingness to dress in BGEA Library approved apparel in order to complement positive guest interaction;
  • Able to be at assigned work station for extended periods (break included);
  • Provide own transportation to and from the Billy Graham Library.
Qualifications
  • Commitment to Christ: Volunteers should have a Christian testimony and be able to clearly articulate their own personal conversion and testimony.
  • Commitment to the Local Church: Volunteers must be a part of a body of believers that can provide support and encouragement. Involvement with the Billy Graham Library may provide spiritual growth and fellowship, but in no way should participation with the Library be seen as a substitute for commitment to a local church.
  • Commitment to the Billy Graham Library: Volunteers should possess a passion for evangelism and a desire to help people begin a relationship with Jesus Christ; must agree with the BGEA statement of faith.
  • Commitment to work with others from different Christian traditions: The Billy Graham Library draws its support from people in many different Churches; therefore Volunteers must be able to work with Christians from various denominations.
  • Commitment to a balanced Christian Lifestyle: Volunteers must be committed to a balanced Christian lifestyle which includes: maturity, emotional stability, healthy interpersonal relationships, stable and Biblically based living situation and must be a good representative of Christ in both public and private life.
  • Commitment to Teamwork: Volunteers must adhere to the appropriate position description at all times, exhibiting a Christian attitude and a servant’s heart; enjoy working with people and have good people skills.
  • Commitment to cooperate with The Billy Graham Library staff: Volunteers must adhere to agreed schedules and tasks, and must cooperate with volunteer program supervision.
  • Volunteers must also:

    • Be at least 16 years of age or older;
    • Live in Charlotte, N.C. or the surrounding areas;
    • Have visited the Library, including taking a Journey of Faith tour;
    • Commit to serve the minimum hours required for each position. Volunteers are welcome to serve as often as they like;
    • Provide own transportation to and from the Library;
    • Submit to a criminal background check;
    • Submit to pastoral and personal reference checks;
    • Agree to sign the Volunteer Agreement form;
    • Must have a Christian testimony and be able to clearly articulate their own personal conversion testimony;
    • Agree with BGEA’s Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct;
    • Attend a day of On-site training;
    • Attend the Christian Life and Witness Course.
